Vienna

Vienna is Austria’s capital and is also the largest city in the country.  Vienna is one of the nine states in Austria as well as its center when it comes to politics, culture and economics.  It ranks tenth among the largest cities in terms of population in the European Union.  According to Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Vienna is the second city in terms of life quality.  The city is also host to a number of international organizations such as the United Nations and OPEC.  In terms of climate, Vienna has a humid continental climate.  This means the temperature is sometimes warm or hot in the summer, mild during autumn and spring, and cold during winter with temperature dropping below the freezing point.

The city is in the East of the country, but the cities in the west are a relatively short drive away if you rent a car in Vienna, which also makes it possible for you to visit the nearby Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Vienna is rich in arts and culture, and these are quite evident in the city’s opera houses, theaters, classical music, and fine arts.  Vienna has very famous theaters such as the Burgtheater and the Akademie Theater, that are considered to be the best among the rest.  Some of the smaller theaters in Vienna are known to present modern or experimental plays as well as cabarets.  Opera houses, such as the Volksoper, are where you want to go to see an operetta in Vienna.  Aside from these, there are also concert venues that are aimed at the huge amount of tourists that want to explore the Viennese attractions.  Most of these concerts usually present highlights of Viennese music such as the works of Mozart and Strauss.
