Amsterdam

One of the main attractions in Amsterdam, which is infamously known around the world, is their red light district called De Wallen.  It is the largest and most well-known red light district in the city, and it has hundreds of one bedroom apartments being rented by female prostitutes.  These sex workers can be seen offering their services behind a glass window illuminated with red lights.  There are a number of sex museums, shops and theaters in the area.  There are also peep shows.  The young crowds, mostly college age students, are attracted to museums and coffee shops that feature and sell marijuana.  De Wallen is located in the center of the oldest part of Amsterdam crossed by several canals and covers several blocks south of Oude Kerk.  It has been in existence since the 14th century and originally catered to sailors.  Prostitution is legal in Netherlands, and European citizens can legally work as sex workers.  Brothel owners require health certificates before employing sex workers or leasing rooms.  Most of the women are self employed and rent rooms from private owners.  The typical cost is around €100-150 every eight hours.  Sex workers typically charge €65 to €100 for twenty minutes of sex. The city of Amsterdam itself is not very car-friendly, but given the size of the country, renting a car in Amsterdam is an amazing way to see it.
