Chicago
One of the things that Chicago is famous for is the deep dish pizza. It’s a staple food and sometimes used to replace meals when people are too lazy or too tired to cook. Although there are many fast-food chains that deliver pizza, traditional and handmade pizzas are rare nowadays and prized by the masses due to their natural ingredients and distinct taste. Deep dish pizza is a style that was developed in Chicago, which later on gave way to stuffed pizza. The deep dish pizza was created in Pizzeria Uno in 1943 by a former football star named Ike Sewell. The pizza is made by placing a thick layer of dough in a deep round pan and then pulled up to the sides. It’s pan baked and oiled heavily. The crust is covered with sliced mozzarella topped with meats, Italian sausage, onions, mushrooms and bell peppers. Then an uncooked sauce consisting of pureed tomatoes is added. It’s finished off with grated cheese. Two other pizza restaurants experimented with the deep dish pizza and created the stuffed pizza. The recipe was based from an Italian Easter pie. Deep dish pizzas are famous around the world. Partially-baked pizzas are shipped around the US to customers who can’t go to Chicago. So why not rent a car in Chicago and see how many restaurants you can find? Also, don’t forget that there are loads of interesting places to see in Illinois.
